Safe Kids Lower Shore Maryland (SKLSM) is a coordinated effort between the Wicomico County Health Department, Maryland Cooperative Extension and several other public, private and voluntary organizations committed to the prevention of unintentional injuries among children.  Nationwide, unintentional injuries are taking the lives of more children between the ages of 0-14 years than disease, violence and suicide.  In addition, each year more than 92,000 children are permanently disabled.  The good news is that almost 90% injuries can be avoided by just taking simple precautions.

Finding a Solution
In conjunction with Maryland State and Safe Kids Worldwide, SKLSM is committed to injury prevention efforts by providing leadership, education, media awareness and interactive community activities for children and their parents throughout Dorchester, Somerset, Wicomico and Worcester Counties.

Targeted Prevention
SKLSM prevention efforts are based upon local injury data reports and community needs.  Current target areas include:
  • Child Passenger Safety
  • Bicycle Safety
  • Playground Safety
  • Poison Prevention
  • Fire Prevention
  • Water Safety
